This week we have had 2 visitors to school to deliver assemblies to the children. Dunstable Foodbank spoke to the children on Monday about the work they do and how they support families in cirisis. They were very appreciative of the donations that our families make to the Foodbank and explained that this helps to Create a Better World for those who need help (our current area of learning).
We were lucky enough to have the Vertu Cup in school on Tuesday. Bert from Luton Town, delivered an assembly to the Key Stage 2 children about what the cup was and how Luton Town had worked as a team to ensure that they won it! The children (and staff) were very excited to be able to see the cup up close.
Thank-you to the families who completed the family survey. The results of this have been sent out in a separate letter. We have begun to look at the areas where we can improve and will make changes as appropriate. A number of families mentioned having more information about the learning in class. Each week, the newsletter will have a section which is dedicated to a Year group and what they have been learning.
We hope that all of our families have a lovely half term break and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 1st June at 8:35am.
Year 1 has had a busy week! In English, they have written free style poems using descriptive adjectives on topics of their choice, and started practising for their phonics screening check by reading real and nonsense words. In maths they have been learning about sharing and grouping quantities building a solid knowledge base ready for learning Year 2. We used our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us solve some particularly tricky sharing and grouping problems. In RE, they learned about mosques as Muslim places of worship and their key features. This term in PE, the children have been building athletics skills, focusing on balancing and travelling safely over obstacles.
Every week we finish our Thursday with Buddy Reading. Each buddy from Sapphire helps their Pearl buddy read their Phonics books, followed by a few fun books. We love reading together and building fun friendships with our Year 5 Buddies!
Great work, everyone!
The end of the academic year is Friday 17th July. All children will need to be collected from school at 2:00pm. There will be no Big Fun Club on this day- please therefore make arrangements for collection.

As the school holidays approach and the weather becomes warmer, we want to share some vital information about water safety. Many young people enjoy spending time near rivers, lakes, and other open water, but these environments can be very dangerous—even for strong swimmers.
This message is supported by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and local partners, including the Police, the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST), RLSS and local authorities, who often respond to water-related incidents during the summer.
Open water areas may look inviting, but they can hide serious hazards such as:
Cold water shock – sudden immersion can cause gasping, panic and breathing difficulties
Hidden dangers – weeds, debris, strong currents and sudden changes in depth
Risk of injury – jumping or diving into unknown water can cause serious harm
Emergency Advice
If someone is in trouble in the water: Do not enter the water yourself
Phone – Float – Throw
If you see someone struggling in the water, remember Phone – Float – Throw. It is a simple way to act quickly while keeping everyone safe.
Phone – call 999. Ask for the Fire Service for inland water (rivers, lakes, canals) or the Coastguard at the coast.
Float – Encourage the person to float on their back with their ears in the water, relax their breathing, and call for help. Once they feel calmer, encourage them to swim to safety if they can.
Throw – help them to float in the water by throwing something that floats (a lifebuoy, throwline, football, or even a bottle) and encourage them to hold on. Keep talking to them until help arrives.
More information about water safety is available on the Respect the Water website: www.respectthewater.com and the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service website: www.bedsfire.gov.uk.
The RLSS water Safety Code video is also easy to understand for young people.
Please take a moment to talk with your child about these key messages to help keep them safe and ensure everyone enjoys the warmer months.
