Office Manager Danielle Hess
Each state and U.S. territory is required to maintain a statewide independent living council (SILC). The council and the centers for independent living (CILs) within the state develop a state plan for independent living (SPIL). The SPIL is a document required by law that indicates how the IL network is going to improve independent living services for individuals with disabilities over the next three years. It identifies the needs and priorities of consumers, providers, and other stakeholders and sets forth goals and objectives to respond to them.
Having a strong network for independent living in a state or territory is crucial. Collaborating on the SPIL development can help create a cohesive and unified vision among all stakeholders who have an interest in issues that impact citizens with disabilities.
group to create SMART goals for the 2025-2027 State Plan for Independent Living
THANK YOU for agreeing to be a part of the work group to create SMART goals for the 2025-2027 State Plan for Independent Living. If you are receiving this email, it is because you have indicated interest in participating. We understand that you may not be able to attend every meeting but encourage you to try to make it when possible. It is the goal of the CA SILC that the SPIL we create will work for everyone, so we need your engagement in developing the goals we will collectively work on over the next 3 years.
We envision this group to meet over a short period of time to:
1) Choose a group facilitator. This person will lead the work group meeting and help SILC staff develop agendas.
2) Create SMART goals related to the topic to be included in the 2025-2027 State Plan for Independent Living.
3) Make recommendations to the SPIL committee on how they should allocate the Title VIIB funds for SPIL projects.
Based on your preferences, you have been assigned to participate on the Managed Care Work Group. This work group will meet on:
Jan 11, 2024 01:00 PM
Jan 25, 2024 01:00 PM
Feb 8, 2024 01:00 PM
Feb 22, 2024 01:00 PM
If the group needs to meet more frequently or for a longer period, we will extend the dates.
We ask that each work group facilitator share the goal language that they develop with SILC Staff by March 1, 2024.
SILC staff will insert the language into the draft SPIL which will be reviewed at the March 5-6 SILC Full Council Meeting. An Outlook calendar invite with zoom information will follow this email. Additionally, the zoom information is included in the text of this email as well.
Quick Reminder:
Creating SMART goals involves defining objectives that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Specific:
Clearly define your goal. Be specific about what you want to achieve.
Ask yourself: What do we want to accomplish? Why is it important? How will we achieve it?
Measurable:
Establish criteria for measuring your progress and success.
Ask yourself: How will we measure our progress? How will we know when the goal is accomplished?
Achievable:
Ensure that your goal is realistic and attainable.
Ask yourself: Is the goal realistic with the resources and time available? Do we have the necessary skills and abilities?
Relevant:
Make sure your goal aligns with your broader objectives and is relevant to your overall mission.
Ask yourself: Does this goal matter to us? Is it in line with the SILC and IL Network values and long-term objectives?
Time-bound:
Set a deadline to create a sense of urgency and to keep yourself accountable.
Ask yourself: What is the timeframe for achieving this goal? When will we start and finish?
