Each year we complete a pupil survey to understand how our children feel about their school. This year we asked them to choose words that described the school. We created a word cloud where the most popular answers are the largest.
We feel it is important for children to have their opinion heard, we run three dedicated councils for the children to take part in. They are school council, eco council and collective worship council. These councils have a pupil elected rep from each year group 1-6.
So far this year...
Eco council have been very busy planning ideas for the Act stage for the 'Green schools project'. In this project, run by Zero Carbon schools, we have learnt all about carbon emissions and how we can help the environment. Last term we submitted data about our schools carbon emissions. When collecting the data we focused on four key areas; food, travel, purchasing and energy. From this we then received our schools carbon footprint, which is compared to other schools completing the project. As you can see our area for development is travel, and the eco council have been thinking of some imaginative ways to improve this area, alongside some ideas that may lower our emissions further.
Collective Worship council worked hard to help with the Salvation Army Christmas Toy appeal.
A Message from the Collective Worship Council
Thank You for Supporting the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in our school community for your incredible generosity in supporting the Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal this year.
As you can see from the photo, our collection grew and grew—eventually filling over five large bags with brand-new toys, games, jigsaws, puzzles, colouring sets, cuddly toys, books, cosmetics and clothing. The bright colours and excited smiles in the picture show just how special this project has been. Members of the Council helped gather everything together in the library, proudly sitting behind the wonderful mountain of gifts that will soon bring joy to children across our local area.
These donations will make a real difference to families who may be finding things difficult this Christmas. Thanks to you, many children will wake up on Christmas morning to a gift chosen with care, generosity and love.
We are so proud of our school community and wanted to thank you for helping to make Christmas brighter for others.
With warmest wishes,
The Collective Worship Council
The School Council at Old Newton Primary School is a group of pupils from Year 1-6 who work together to make our school an even better place for everyone. We meet weekly to share ideas, discuss important topics and represent the views of our classmates. Throughout the year, we organise and run fundraising events and fun competitions to support school projects and charities. We also pose weekly questions to pupils about subjects, lessons, lunchtimes and possible improvements, ensuring that everyone has a voice. To keep the whole school community informed, we publish a termly newsletter highlighting our work, achievements and upcoming plans.
This year we will once again be organising the annual Valentine's Day Bake Sale as well as running an Art competition, designing activities for Children's Mental Health Week and creating a brand new sponsorship event.
