READ to your child each day. Make it part of your routine such as at bedtime or after lunch. If you don’t have many books at home you can visit one of these websites and watch it together. Talk about the story, have your child make predictions on what will happen next.
Read-aloud each day by Mrs. P!
WRITE inside and out!
Have your child practice writing their name.
As you write your grocery list, have your child write one as well. See if they can copy your list, or use their own “writing” to join in. You can also write your list in a highlighter and have them trace some of the words.
Play with sidewalk chalk and have your child “sign” his/her work, just like a real artist would.
Tape some saran wrap to the kitchen table and write letters in a pudding or CoolWhip.
MATH every day! You can practice math with preschoolers throughout your day at home. Have them practice counting everything!
If you have stairs in your home, have them count them as they go up/down. Try counting backward!
As you are setting the table have your child count how many forks, knives, and spoons you will need. If you are preparing a meal, have them help measure using measuring cups and spoons, counting eggs as you add them, etc.
While you are doing laundry, have your child sort the socks, count pairs, talk about sizes, colors, and patterns as you put them away.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL learning is equally important to your child’s development as these other subjects.
Practice making faces in the mirror and naming the feelings, such as silly, happy, scared, sad, etc.
Have your child cut pictures out of magazines of different people making different faces and have them try to write/trace the word such as “happy”. Talk about things or situations that make them feel that way.
Play a game and practice taking turns.
Talk about your schedule for the day during breakfast so that they know what will happen. For instance, today we are going to eat breakfast, take a bath, play outside, eat lunch, read a book/rest, play a game, sort the laundry, have a snack, make dinner…etc. You can have your child draw pictures for each part of the day on index cards and rearrange them to fit each day of the week.
IF THE WEATHER IS NICE, play outside for at least one hour! Some ideas to help get you started:
ride bikes or go for a walk – talk about and describe what you see
decorate the sidewalks with chalk
blow bubbles
have matchbox car races
play tag
play catch
