Ms Robertson, LRC Manager

I was appointed the LRC Manager in 2023 and have been a keen reader all my life. In my previous roles I have worked in Marketing within Education and organising Events. I enjoy assisting people to ensure that they get the books and help they need. If I don't know something I will ask someone or go and look it up so we can find out more together. Please don't hesitate in asking me a question.

I mostly enjoy books that I can relate to and tell a real life story, that said I can sometimes get lost in an adventure story.

I am currently reading 24 Hour Cafe by Libby Page, why don't you come and tell me what you are reading or give me some new suggestions.

I hope you enjoy looking through the LRC website; if you have any helpful suggestions for items to add to the website, or any queries please get in touch using the contact us form

The LRC is situated on the corridor from A block next to the Rerographics Room and the Careers Office (where Ms Morris is based). We have nearly 9,000 titles to choose from, in both the fiction and non-fiction sections.

There is also a selection of magazines to read, covering history, photography, car mechanics, and model railways, which have been kindly donated by staff and friends. In addition, we subscribe to Phoenix Comics.

We have computers which 6th form use for study periods, ten computers are kept for Accelerated Reader Quizzing.

The LRC is open after school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday when late buses run.

The Careers Library is managed by Ms Morris (Careers Manager). It is situated on the right as you enter the LRC.

LRC: Code of Conduct for Students Year 7-11

  • The LRC is a place for quiet study and research during lesson times

  • All coats and bags must be hung up in the cloakroom on the left as you enter

  • No food or drink may be brought into the LRC

  • No mobile phones may be used unless permission has been given by a teacher, LRC Manager Ms Robertson or Careers Manager Ms Morris

  • Students visiting the LRC during lesson time must have written permission from a teacher or head of house

  • Computers are to be used for study, not for playing games or watching catch-up TV

  • Students who do not follow the code of conduct may be asked to leave the LRC; repeated or serious violations of the code of conduct may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the LRC

LRC: Code of Conduct for Sixth Form Students

The LRC is a place for quiet, independent work and research.

It is not a place for group work or discussion. Group tasks or discussion work can be undertaken in the Sixth Form Common Room, in designated sixth form study rooms (certain periods only) or in vacant classrooms (details of these are available from the Sixth Form Office).

A maximum of four students may work at the tables on the LRC central floor area. Only one student can sit at each computer unless agreed with LRC staff e.g. for mentoring purposes.

Sixth former students are allowed to keep their bags and coats with them as long as they are kept tucked under the table.

No food or drink may be brought into or consumed in the LRC at break or lunch.

Mobile phones, tablets etc. may only be used for research, work and accessing the homework website. Students found using their devices inappropriately will be told to leave the LRC.

Computers are only to be used for study. Sixth Formers may use the non-designated computers when there is no class booked in to use them. However, LRC staff reserve the right to ask students to vacate if necessary.

Headphones may be worn as long as the sound is not audible to others.

Students who do not follow the Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the LRC. Repeated behaviour which prevents others from using the space effectively will lead to a withdrawal of the facility for individual students for a longer period of time and involvement of the sixth form team.

Ms Morris, Careers and Work Experience Manager, is based in the office outside the library. There are lots of leaflets and prospectus from many different colleges and universities in the UK. You can research future choices, as well as information about apprenticeships. For more information visit the Careers site by clicking on the link at the side.
