A message from two Year 11 Travel and Tourism students:
Why did I choose Travel and Tourism?
Originally I chose Travel and tourism because I was interested in different countries in the world but it is much more than that. You learn about the impacts of tourism on the destination, how the destination manages tourism, you explore ways to make tourism sustainable and much more. I think it’s a great subject for people that are not keen on exams because it is 2 parts coursework and 1 part exam. If you are thinking of taking travel and tourism i would consider also taking geography because they do link very well together. If you are thinking about going into the tourism industry when you leave school, I would definitely consider taking this subject. You also get to go on trips outside of the school which is also a bonus 😁
What I have learned from this course?
I have learnt to understand that the skills and things you learn in Travel and Tourism can be used when you leave school and help you find a job in different sectors as the skills you learn can be transferred into different occupations. I have learnt a lot about the travel and tourism industry that I never knew before and learnt about how the travel and tourism industry makes money, advertise to customers, what they provide for tourists on holiday etc.
Good and bad points
It is an interesting and different subject - step out of your comfort zone and learn about something you have never learnt before whilst in KS3.
The teachers support you if you have problems with homework, struggling to complete schoolwork and the teachers will help you.
I think there should be more interactive elements within the subject e.g. quizzes etc, but we do some occasionally.
My favourite part of Travel and Tourism is that you learn a lot of valuable life skills and you can learn about the working world and what factors a tourism organisation has to take into account in order to gain profit and give a quality product to their customers.
