We launch our Year 9 Options process on Monday 17th January ( during the Life Curriculum day) when the Year 9 students will complete a full day of Options preparation. This will include an introduction to the Options system and 3 taster lessons in subjects which may be new to them. The final part of the day will be a Careers session so that they can start to look at possible Careers and skills and subjects needed in the future.
Students will be placed into tiers as part of the Options process and parents will be informed of the tier their child is in after the Year 9 Options evening on Wednesday 16th February. The tiers will determine the choices that the students have - tier 1 having to take French and either History or Geography, tier 2 taking one of History, Geography, Computer Science or French and Tier 3 having a reduced allocation of options and having additional Maths and English.
Please note that there are no option blocks this year and whilst the tiers do put in some restrictions for 1 or 2 subjects, the remaining subjects are a free choice.
Please find below the presentation from the Options evening on 16th February. Open the presentation in a new tab in order to click through it at your own pace - icon in the top right hand corner.
To help you make your choice - please look through all the information in this Year 9 Options Information booklet. This will give you some real insight into the subjects that we have available and will allow you to prepare for which subjects you wish to see on Options evening.
To be awarded the full English Baccalaureate, pupils need to achieve grade 9-5 in English, Maths, Science, History or Geography, and a foreign language (French). To complete the full EBacc, students must therefore select Geography or History and French from the option blocks. This will be the expectation for our Tier 1 students.
