Invaders and Settlers
The children will look into the changes in power of Britain through the Dark Ages! They will develop their understanding of key concepts of invasion and settlement. The reasons behind the arrival of the Saxons and subsequent power struggles with the Vikings will also be investigated. The concept of legacy will be explored and we will link with our Year 5 core text - The Way of the Waves.
GRADES - Gender: In our Historical fiction we read about Alva a shield maiden, who is challenging the stereotypical view of all Vikings being strong male savage invaders!

A historical study of the early Islamic civilisation that was the basis for what is known as the “Islamic Golden Age”, examining the legacy left and the influence of their art and culture on the rest of the world - especially Europe.
Ancient Greece:
A historical study of the ancient Greek civilization. Year 5 will look at the people, where they lived and what they did. Also examining the legacy left and the influence of their art and culture.
