FIRE! FIRE!
A historical study of a famous and significant turning point in British History – The Great Fire of London! The children have learnt about this famous period in History, how the fire started and how it changed London going forward. They will also look at the diaries of Samuel Pepys and try to understand what it would have been like to live through the catastrophe! There will also be a strong emphasis on fire safety and how we can protect ourselves and the world around us.
GRADES - Gender: During the Great Fire the significant roles were all male (Lord Mayor, King Charles || and Samuel Pepys). The impact of the fire resulted in the start of the fire service which was male dominant.
The children in Year 1 worked incredibly hard to produce these drawings and writing from The Great Fire of London. They reported on the events of The Great Fire of London as well as making comparisons with today.
Pupil Voice: I like it a lot because we learn interesting facts and our teacher makes history really fun and we watch videos.
EXPLORERS
The children will immerse themselves in the exciting lives of famous explorers throughout history! They will sail across the Atlantic with Christopher Columbus, rocket into space with Neil Armstrong and Valentina Tereshkova and trek across the Antarctic region with Robert Falcon Scott and the Arctic with Matthew Henson. These significant figures have made amazing contributions to the world both nationally and internationally.
