Minibeast Mondays
This week's minibeast is dragonflies! Watch the video below and use the information to create a fact-file all about dragonflies. We want you to write about what they eat, where they live, and what they look like. We would love you to do some drawing in your fact-file too! If some of the facts are not in the video, you could ask a grown-up to help you to do some research on the internet.
Tug of War
Today's challenge is a fun Maths game- you will be practicing using your counting forwards and backwards on a numberline.
You will need:
a dice (here is a digital dice if you don't have one at home https://freeonlinedice.com/ )
A number line to at least 20- if you are feeling super spicy you could have a number-line to 30,40 or 50! (Twinkl has lots of number-lines you can print, or an adult can draw one for you. Have a go at writing some numbers and practicing your number formation! https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resources/numbers-number-system/counting-numbers-the-number-system-maths-key-stage-1/number-lines)
A counter- you could use a coin instead
The Game:
One player is called 'Plus' and the other is called 'Minus'. Decide who is who. Talk about what direction we think plus will be, we also use the language of 'add' in Reception, and do the same for Minus, we also use the language of 'take away' in Reception.
Plus moves the counter from left to right and Minus moves the counter from right to left.
Take it in turns to throw the two dice and add up the two numbers.
Move the counter that number of places in your direction.
If the counter reaches 1, Minus has won and so, of course if the counter reaches 20, Plus has won.
A house for your pet rock
A couple of weeks ago (see past work,) we set you the challenge of making a pet rock. We saw that lots of you completed the challenge, and we loved seeing a range of different pet creations on tapestry.
Mrs Clark's pet Rock, Stripy, wanted a house, she she created one for him. Can you create a house for your pet rock? You could use any boxes that you have in the house, lego, or even look for some natural resources outside. Here are some pictures of Stripy's house for inspiration.
Spicy challenge 🌶 We would love to learn about how you made your house! Mrs Clark wrote about her process, and even wrote the tricky words in red. Maybe you could use your sounds to write about how you created your house.
Self-portraits
Using a mirror, can you draw a picture of yourself?
Think about what colours you might need and the shape of your face, nose, eyes, ears and lips.
Spicy Challenge!
Can you label the different parts of your face?
Sound Effects
Can you read a story either on your own or with your grown up? Try reading it a second time and add in different sound effects.
Can you use your body (clapping, whistling, tapping etc.) to make the sounds?
Can you use things you can find around the house to make the sounds?
Spicy challenge: Can you use the sounds to make a pattern? Can you describe that pattern? Can you tell your grown up why you made that sound effect?
