A font is a type of text that you use. The default in Word is Calibri.
Choosing a different font will change the way the letters look on your screen.
This is the Calibri font
When you want to change your font, make sure the Home tab is clicked.
This is where the font changes are:
Select the words you want to change by highlighting them.
Click the downward arrow beside the font name in your Tools
Use up and down arrows.
Look through the different fonts.
As you move your pointer over the font names your highlighted selection will change to show you what that font will look like. Click on the font that you want.
1. Type the months of the year, one on each line.
2. Select March.
3. Change the font to “Lucida Calligraphy”.
4. Deselect March
Select August.
Change the font to “Garamond”.
Deselect August.
Select November.
Change the font to “Wide Latin”.
Deselect November.
Save on your DOC with the file name Months.
The standard size is 11 but you can make it bigger or smaller.

To change the font size, select the words you want to change and highlight them.
Click on the down arrow beside the font size.
Click on the Font Size you want.
As you move your pointer over the numbers, your highlighted selection changes to show you what the font size will look like.
Click on the font size that you want.
Practice Tasks: Font Size
Task #1
Open the file named Months.
Select May.
Change the font size for May to 72.
Deselect May.
Task #2
Select December.
Change the font size for December to 28.
Deselect December.
Task #3
Select April.
Change the font size for April to 10.
Deselect April.
Close and don’t save.
You can change the colour of the font.
Select the words you want to change by highlighting them.
Click on the down arrow beside the “A” here.
You will see your colour options.
As you move your mouse over the colours, your selection will change to show you what each colour will look like.
Click on the box of the colour you want.
If you do not like that colour, you can choose a different one.
Practice Tasks: Fonts
Task #1
Write a short note to a friend or family member telling them what you would like for Christmas.
Select their name.
Change the font colour to red.
Change the font of the note to Brush Script MT.
Change the font size to 18.
Close and don’t save.
Task #2
Open a new document
Type your mailing address.
Select your city/town.
Change the colour to green and the font size to 22.
Change the font of your name to Snap ITC and the size to 36.
Close and don’t save.

Task #1
Type the date.
Select it.
Change the font of the date to Britannic Bold.
Change the font of the date to size 48.
Underline the day.
Deselect the day.
Close and don’t save.
Type the name of your province.
Select the name of your province.
Change the font of the name of your province to Arial Rounded MT Bold.
Change the colour of the name of your province to orange.
Change the name of your province to Italics.
Bold the name of your province.
Deselect the name of your province.
Close and don’t save.
If you make a mistake you can change it back by clicking Undo.
Undo will change the last thing you did.
You can click Redo to cancel out your last undo.
Undo and Redo are located at the top left-hand corner of the screen.

Type the word: calendar
Change the font to bold: calendar
Undo: calendar
Redo: calendar
Use the backspace and delete keys to erase text in your document.
· The backspace key erases the text to the left of the insertion point one character at a time.
· The delete key erases the text to the right of the insertion point.
Practice Tasks: Undo and Redo
Task #1
Type your birthday.
Select your birthday.
Change the font colour of your birthday to purple.
Deselect your birthday.
Click Undo.
Close and don’t save.
Task #2
Type the city that you live in.
Select the city.
Change the city to font size 48.
Deselect the city.
Click Undo.
Click Redo.
Click Undo.
Close and don’t save.
Select the words you want by highlighting them.
Use the mouse to right click on the highlighted words.
Left click on Copy or Cut. When you select Cut, the words will disappear.
Left click on the place on the page where you want to paste.
Right click to open the menu, then left click on the picture under the word Paste.
The computer can put things on the left, in the center or on the right of the page.

Select the text that you want to align by highlighting it.
Click on the direction you want it aligned.
When you click on the alignment you want, it will change colour.
Practice Tasks: Undo / Redo and Alignment
Task #1
Open file on your DOC named Learning.
Change each line to a different size.
Change each line to a different colour.
Undo colour choice for last line.
Put everything in the center.
Save.
Close.
Task #2
Open file on your DOC named About Me.
Underline your five favourite things.
Put your skills and qualities in Italics.
Change the first line to a different colour.
Put the favourite things in the center.
Save.
Close.
You can set the space between the lines on your page.

highlighting it.
Click on the Line Spacing icon.

Choose the line spacing you want.
Click on Line Spacing Options for more options.
