Editor's Note
Where do we exist? Where do we live? What shapes and influences our choices and decisions? If you're a human who is an inhabitant of the planet Earth, then I am sure you already know the answer. Society. As per the Oxford Dictionary, society is defined as the 'aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.' If you ask me, society is what shapes our beliefs, and makes us question a lot of things and various phenomena which seem to be normalized - it's society that watches us during every phase of our life with constant criticism or feedback - may it be wanted or unwanted. It was at the age of 10 that I decided to question what actually happens in society. As a child with partial knowledge of the world, I came across a lot of personal incidents which made me constitute my idea of society. Women being told to be home by a certain time, boys being told to be muscular and not cry, young girls learning and sticking to the role of a housewife in every "ghar-ghar" game, boys being warned about their upcoming responsibilities when they grow up and the most ironic of them all, kinder joy's segregation of "for boys" and "for girls," which left no opportunity to challenge the stereotype that boys play with cars and girls play with dolls. As I grew up, I realised that society is an integral part of everyone's life which you cannot get rid of. However, it is important to educate yourself and begin questioning things to really understand what's going wrong. The abolition of sati, girls being sent to schools, advocating for equality, same-sex marriages and couples being normalized would all have been an eutopic vision if never questioned or acted upon. Our society still has a long way to go and we, the Editorial Board team, have decided to address all these issues one by one like pearls on a string to define our current society. "Dear Society, we are here to listen and to help. Together it's us that forms this society and has the ability to change it." Dearest reader, be ready to engage in this wide plethora of issues taking place in our world. Once you're done reading, remember to question and to think...
