EDITORS NOTE
We live in a world dominated by the binary. From computers to gender, everything in our worldview is dictated in a binary fashion. That is why it is important we take the opportunities we have, however small, to make sure we open our eyes and see the world for what it actually is- a celebration of colour. That is why when the Editorial Board sat down to decide on a theme for this edition, we immediately knew what we had to do. We had to honour our traditions, our heritage, and our culture. We had to honour the ‘International Trans Visibility Month', not because it is our duty, but because it's a privilege to be able to wear our diversity like the jewel it is, and not hide it like the stolen treasure we pretend it to be. The world would rather erase our experiences, our stories, and our voices because we refuse to conform to their binary ways, but we’re here to stay. We’re here to teach our learners acceptance, kindness, inclusivity, and most importantly, respect. We’ve picked up our paintbrushes and our pens, and we plan to be fearless.
And thus, I cannot be prouder in presenting the first newsletter edition for the session of 2021-22 called ‘Resisting Erasure’. Touching upon history, politics, literature, socio-cultural aspects of the trans community, and so much more, we unveil this edition in hopes to create allies and reassuring young trans and non-binary individuals that they are worth everything the world has to offer and more.
See you on the flip side :)
