DR. LUNARDI, UPPER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL | AUGUST UPDATE
It’s been an exciting whirlwind of a first 3 weeks here at Upper Campus, and I’m so proud of our students and families for settling into routines so quickly. Please be sure to read the whole Newsletter, but here are a couple of things I encourage you to please pay particular attention to:
Registration for 3 upcoming, optional college/career planning events is due Friday, 9/5. Click HERE for all of our college/career planning info, including the registration links.
MAP testing for 6th-10th graders started yesterday and will continue next week on September 2nd and September 4th. Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast, as these tests are very important for us as we work to customize instruction to the individual needs of our students. 11th and 12th graders will have grade-level activities during those time slots, including two different sessions geared towards helping our students plan for life after HCLA (“College 101” and College Essay Writing).
Please remember to send your student to school with lunch. Vendor deliveries such as Uber Eats are not permitted.
Partnering with Parents - Workshops
Please mark your calendars for the Social Media parent session on Tuesday, 9/16 (see flyer below).
Our first parent workshop on helping students understand their identity in Christ, using the book Grounded In Grace, will be at 3:30pm on Tuesday, September 30th. HERE is a link to the book on Amazon. We will start with the first 3 chapters.
Thanks for helping to make our first 3 weeks of morning and afternoon carline run smoothly - we appreciate it!
Have a great weekend and see you all soon!
Chris Lunardi
LOWER SCHOOL CARLINE - once carline begins parents are expected to join the carline for pick up unless they walk their children home. Please do not walk up to pick up your child. Thank you.
Lower School PALS first meeting - Thursday September 11th | 8:30
THANK YOU PALS!
Thank you to our Lower School PALS for planning a fun get together last week. Making family connections is so important to building our school community! We appreciate PALS for making these events happen!
STUDENT SAFETY - FINGER PRINTS FOR VOLUNTEERS Please read the introduction letter and the instructions for starting the process. Parents wanting to chaperone are now required to have finger prints on file.
Some of you have asked if we can use finger prints through your employer. In order for us to see if we may be able to retrieve your already submitted finger prints, please fill out the forms in the instructions. If we can connect to them we will let you know. We must have them tied to our system so that we would receive alerts should someone's status change. Otherwise in order to chaperone or volunteer you will need to complete our process. Parents would only need to do this every 5 years.
The following seven Florida state agencies use the same Clearinghouse.
Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA)
Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD):
Department of Children and Families (DCF):
Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA):

PARENT PRESENTATION - HELP YOUR STUDENT PREVENT ONLINE MISTAKES
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 1:30-2:30 in Upper Campus Gym
We are pleased to announce that we have invited Lori Smith, private education lawyer, to provide valuable information to guide you with helping your student avoid the dangers and mistakes of an online presence and how to keep your student's privacy protected. We encourage that at least one parent from each family (4th - 12th grade) attend this valuable session. We will also have sessions for our middle and high school students earlier in the day. In addition to these sessions we have already shared information/lessons through Common Sense Media with Upper School students about protecting their passwords, validating social media/online information (ps.....it's not all true!), how to recognize cyberbullying and to protect their online reputation. We value the partnership between home and school as we all share the same concern for your child's physical and spiritual wellbeing.

Practices for those sports will begin in October so it is important to start planning ahead. If your student is playing a Fall sport they must remain with that sport until the season ends. Coaches will work together so your student can manage the transition. Please use this link to express your student's interest. Athletic Fees: First sport $225.00, Second sport $200.00 and Third sport $175.00. Accounts will not be charged the final rosters are made. If you have questions, please email Mrs. Kelly, Athletic Director at bkelly@thehcla.org.
We are excited to offer athletic sponsorship opportunities! We are actively working on the improvements of the sports court. Bleachers have been added and the scoreboard is installed and ready to see some winning scores on the board. Wind screens have been installed thanks to proud supporters John Melvin Christian College who is eagerly supporting us on our athletic endeavors. If you would like to get your business logo on a banner on the sports court fencing, please register here.
Our 2025-2026 athletic season is off to a great start with the volleyball season already started - a win for our strong JV team this week against Orlando Science! We have your safety in mind and desire to maintain a good relationship with our residential neighbors during carline. As received via email from Mrs. Binkley, we ask that you do not turn off SR 46. Local law enforcement will hand out tickets if SR 46 is backed up. Enter onto Henderson via Orange to Wayside to Henderson or International Pkwy to Wayside to Henderson. Please do not turn around in nearby neighbors’ driveways and be sure to join the carline at the end of the line.
Thank you for cooperation as we maintain order, safety and courtesy to fellow HCLA families and our neighbors.
ORDER BY AUGUST 19TH
Our school-year theme for the year is "Different Because of Christ" We will let others know that we are different because Christ lives in us - Galatians 2:20. August 7, 2025
Dear Crusader Families,
Welcome to a new school year! It is a joy and a blessing to step into the 2025–2026 academic year with each of you. Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, we are grateful for your partnership in the Christ-centered education of your children.
Our theme this year, “Different Because of Christ,” is more than a phrase—it is a truth that defines who we are and how we live. In a world that constantly shifts, we hold fast to the unchanging love and power of Jesus Christ. Because of Him, our identity, purpose, and hope are transformed. We are called to think differently, act differently, and love differently—reflecting His light in everything we do.
As a school community, we will be exploring what it means to live out this calling in our classrooms, friendships, service and leadership. We will challenge our students not just to grow in knowledge, but to grow in Christ—allowing Him to shape their character, choices, and vision for the future.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children. We are honored to walk alongside your family this year, and we are praying for God’s grace, protection, and abundant blessings over each student and home.
Let’s step forward together—changed, called, and different because of Christ.
Peace and blessings,
Cindy Moon

The security gate will restrict access to the entrance of the campus to vehicular traffic and pedestrian access through the use of our new access control gate. Staff will utilize their access control credentials and visitors who arrive (outside of arrival and dismissal times) would be identified over a video doorbell with the ability to remotely open the gate, if approved.
What's next? The gate will remain open for arrival and dismissal times. Traffic flow will be monitored the first week of school and times and instructions for entry will be posted at that point.
