Harvest Day
By: Kody and Carter, The Academy Virtual
A veteran is someone that served in the American Military. We celebrate every November 11th. Celebrating veterans is the best thing you can do. Because the ones in the war, World War One and World War 2. There was a lot of people killed. And they took that risk for us. Doesn't matter who you are, they took a risk. So I think it is important to celebrate veteran's day.
On our last day of school for the month of November, our schools welcomed grandparents into a wonderful celebration of family and love. It was an amazing time, thank you to all who attended! Below are a few of the school wide tributes we did to honor our grandparents. Check out the Grandparents Day Cards our students made.
We had some fabulous grandparents and grandpals join us and we laughed so much! Thank you to Mrs. BB for leading us in our traditional Generation Gap game! FUN TIMES!

How do Energy Drinks and Caffeine Affect our Bodies?
By Sophie, Liberty, and Jayden The Academy Virtual
By Sophie
Caffeine has negative and positive effects on our body. Caffeine raises your blood pressure and can give you anxiety. But how does it give you energy? Well caffeine slows down molecules that help you sleep. Your body will break down molecules like ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and that will create energy. Your nervous system in your brain uses receptors. ATP goes to those receptors which make a biochemical reaction and that slows down important brain molecules. Adenosine and caffeine look very similar, so similar that caffeine takes the spot of adenosine but it won't cause a chemical reaction because the ain't the same size so the caffeine can’t kick in. Energy drinks are good for you. Some have vitamine, nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and more. Energy drinks have caffeine to 80-200 milligrams.Coffee has 92-283 milligrams depending on what coffee it is. The problem with energy drinks are that they can cause sleep issues and that they take a bad path for mental and physical health. Recently people have had out that energy drinks are starting to cause health problems. It causes very high blood pressure and it will decrease important blood vessels. If you drink it three times every day that is when you start to create a problem. Don't mix energy with coffee or alcohol because of blood pressure and toxins.
By Liberty
Caffeine can cause you to be anxious or sweat. It's because it activates the fight or flight response known as the sympathetic nervous system. Overdoing caffeine by a small amount can increase baseline anxiety and the likelihood of panic attacks caffeine can make us feel anxiety and get high blood pressure. Caffeine is the world's most used drug. Energy drinks Make your heart rate faster and your more aware. After the effect of the caffeine where your mood is worse than before you had it And your heart rate goes back to normal and if you drink some more it could cause jitters, which means your body will shake. Small amounts of energy drinks are ok but a bunch of caffeine in big amounts is bad.
By: Jayden
In the human body caffeine acts for the central nervous system. It keeps us awake by blocking one of the body’s key sleep inducing molecules, a substance called adenosine. Your body needs a constant supply of energy, which it gets by breaking down a high-energy molecule called ATP (a high molecule with a lot of energy). Energy drinks and caffeine don’t actually make you have more energy, instead the trick your brain into thinking you have energy. When you drink energy drinks and caffeine it makes your heart rate faster and makes you feel more energetic. But after around 12 hours your body will feel sleepy and you can barely keep your head up. Energy drinks can be dangerous because the amount of sugar and the amount of caffeine, after time it can really harm you and can be life threatening and can send you to the ER.

I was born in Banfl Utah and had two older siblings when I was born,my sister Colette was the oldest and then my brother Brock. When I was 3 or 4, I took dance lessons and have done it my whole life as well as play soccer. We had another sister Eliza so we moved to a bigger house and I had two siblings my sister Britta and my little brother Levi after that. I went to public school in preschool, kindergarten and first grade. When I was 7 we moved to St.Croix during COVID so I did home school and some online classes. I went to public school in fourth grade and I did online for 5th grade and I'm doing it again this year in 6th grade. When I was 1, I was put in a cast because I had hip dysplasia and it meant my bone was growing in the wrong way, so they put me in a cast. When I was 3 or 4 I had surgery to fix it. The surgery is called left pemberton osteotomy. I've had no problems since, but I had to relearn how to walk and ride a bike. My grandma also had hip dysplasia just like me, none of my aunts and aunts have it and none of my cousins have it. My sister had it but the cot it ealy so she just had a brace.

If I were a Turkey
By Mackenzie, Kennedy, Nick, Iliana, Charlee, and Liam, The Academy Virtual and The Academy FL
If I were a turkey on Thanksgiving, I would be slightly anxious. First I would go and find and find a disguise. Unfortunately i did not found one but i found satna on my roof and i told all the other turkeys and they ran and cried. Once we ran for miles and miles, we got hungry so we hunted… The we fund a chicken and followed him to a barn full of feathers. But there was a cowboy with a axe and then one the chicken bit his leg and he cried it's was funny plus anyonning and everyone stared and attacked him and ran until he fall on a tree. Turkey was so confused, he ran straight back into the barn and landed in all the feathers! Then we got scared and started screaming and running. Then we ran back to the barn. Until it was on fire and iliana ran called but you might ask how will guess what i was turkey i coont call it bc i am a turkey duh. A kind, little duck asked turkey if he was ok and he said “well, Taco Bell would make me feel so much better!” So then we go on out morder sicles and drove into the sunset to get Taco Bell. And that we our Thanksgiving.
