exitus

英語《exit》の語源であるラテン語《exitus》は、「出て行くこと」「出口」の他に、「転帰」「結果」「死」という意味までも包括しています。この「exitus」シリーズは、EXITランプの光でモチーフを浮かび上がらせた静物画（写真）です。EXIT、EX（外へ）IT（行く）。つまり「出口」の光は、終わりでもあり、新しい始まりでもあることを表しています。生物学的な死は、終わりではなく、ものの魂は永遠に記憶される。永遠と連鎖してつながって世界ができていくのです。
静物画は英語で《still life（静止した生命）》と言います。
この作品シリーズは、16世紀から18世紀ごろに描かれた静物画のジャンルの一つ《Vanitas》から着想を得ました。《Vanitas》は生のはかなさ、現世の虚しさを描いた寓意画で、避けられない死を表す頭蓋骨が象徴的に描かれていることが多いです。

The Latin word "exitus," from which the English word "exit" is derived, encompasses not only "going out" and "exit," but also "outcome," "result," and even "death. This "exitus" series is a still-life  (photo) in which the motif is brought to life by the light of an EXIT lamp. In other words, the light of the "exit" represents both an end and a new beginning. Biological death is not an end, but the soul of a thing is remembered forever. The world is created by a chain of connections with eternity.
This series of works was inspired by "Vanitas," one of style of still life paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries. Vanitas is an allegorical painting the transience of life and the emptiness of this life, often symbolically depicting a skull representing the inevitability of death.
