Houses
Terrace End School has four "Houses" named after New Zealand Native trees. They are Rimu, Kowhai, Matai and Totara. Siblings are placed in the same House. Two student House Captains lead each House. Year 6 students apply at the start of each year and decisions are made by the house staff within the first few weeks of term.
Terrace End School is a community of learners. The House system aims to reflect our TEAM values as described in the charter and aligns with the implementation of our PB4L model.
The House system helps give students an identity and a sense of pride in a supportive, secure environment. The Houses provide positive competition and a closer rapport between students and teachers. They also aim to help new staff and students adapt to the culture of Terrace End School.
The Houses compete in several sporting, academic and cultural activities for points which are accumulated throughout the year. At assemblies, the points are updated with recognition of individual and group achievements recognized. At the end of the year, the winning House receives the House Trophy and other prizes.
Last year, Inter-House competitions included a Singing competition, Cross Country and Try-Athlon.
Points are awarded for: Placings, Participation, Chants, Demonstrating TEAM, and Best dressed houses at events.
