About Us

Terrace End School is a city school in Palmerston North. We are situated at 201 Ruahine Street, opposite the Terrace End Shopping Centre.

Terrace End School “Learning on the Terrace, “Ako ki te kura atea”, was opened in 1884 and is one of the oldest schools in Palmerston North. The focus of our school is on the business of learning for children, staff and families. Our vision statement, “Enter to learn and learn for life”, encompasses all we believe in.

We work as a TEAM.

TRUST, EXCELLENCE, ACTIONS, and MANAAKITANGA underpins all that happens in our school.

As well as excellence in teaching, there should be enjoyment at school. School should be fun.

Our school is well-resourced with a block of nine classrooms, a shared learning space that incorporates our library, a children’s kitchen, and a large hall, complete with a stage.

The seven classrooms in the Rainbow block interconnect with glass doors and a corridor that can be used as a learning space. These rooms have all been recently refurbished and open by double glass doors onto a decked area.

To optimise the learning of ākonga, we provide a comprehensive educational experience. Our school is designed to ensure that each learner has a range of experiences: sports, the arts, eLearning, inquiry learning, discovery and well-planned literacy and mathematics programmes that develop well-rounded students. Our senior students use Chromebooks, and junior students have access to iPads. Terrace End School provides all necessary digital devices for student use.

We have a large park-like field area surrounded by trees, the playground and our swimming pool; all are favourite places for sports and play. The children love working in our vegetable gardens and riding bikes and scooters on the bike tracks and court areas.

The Terrace End School TEAM enjoy a rich cultural mix of ethnicities. Our teaching, policies and practices reflect this cultural diversity and the unique position of Maori.

“Learning on the Terrace” caters for years 1 to 6. Many of our children move on to Ross Intermediate.

As a Positive Behaviour for Learning school (PB4L), we support our children by teaching the expected behaviours. We use a 'TEAM Ticks' system that the children can use to purchase rewards.
