The satisfaction that arises from landing at your destination after a fourteen-hour flight, and
finally getting to stretch and walk the streets of a new city has no equivalent. The midnight city-scape of
Seoul was captivating, and soon, that city-scape will be my home. I arrived in the country on January
18th, 2020, and two days later, I signed three years of my life off to an entertainment agency there. So
what do I “plan to do with [my] one wild and precious life? ̈
It’s already been determined for me.
In past years, I’ve had diverse aspirations: medical school, law school, and business school,
which had been conditioned since my elementary school years. Moreover, I never felt I had sufficient
artistic talent, and I never wanted to admit to considering a career as a performer in fear of the adverse
reactions from my peers and family.
Initially, even my step-grandparents in Korea were encouraging. Then I received my final results,
and my choice to sign the contract worried them. Other responses differed wildly, but ultimately I upheld
the decision to pursue this path.
So as of now, my next three years will be spent enduring sleepless nights, hours of singing,
dancing, and modelling classes, consistent weight checks, and countless other preparations for a debut.
But from there, who knows? Because overall, the very nature of having “one wild and precious life”, is its
mystery, and fundamentally, its potential for change.
