Tzedek /Chai Mitzvah

Harvey Gibbs

What I enjoy most about Jewish education is the fact that I can teach younger people the values, stories and traditions that Judaism provides. Having the opportunity to be a teacher brings me joy because I have the opportunity to teach Jewish children what I once learned.

I am a senior at the University of Hartford, and I am majoring in exercise science, which will lead me to my dream of being a Doctor of Physical Therapy!

I would like to start off by wishing a Shana Tova to everyone. I hope you all have a year full of good health and positivity. My name is Harvey Gibbs, and I am going to be teaching your lovely children on Wednesday nights about Jewish geography. I am a student at the University of Hartford, studying Physical Therapy. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and I am super grateful to have the opportunity to teach Jewish geography for trimester one. It was one of my favorite classes I took, myself, when I was in 6th grade.

I have a very knowledgable background on Judaism, since I have studied it all of my life. I grew up going to Hebrew Day School and attended religious school from 6th-12th grade. I was a student ambassador for the Houston Holocaust Museum for three years, and I participated in the Bnai' Birth Youth Organization for four years during high school. I am extremely proud to be a Jew, and I show it everyday on campus representing Hillel and Chabad.

I hope to meet you all on the first day of classes! Be well.

Tzedek Box

This program for grade 7 students (and beyond) is a new program organized by our former rabbinic intern Andrew Mandel. It is a chance for students to engage in meaningful work of Tzedek or justice throughout the world. During the year we hope to connect this to our new partnership with the Greater Hartford Interfaith Alliance (GHIAA) and our Social Action committee. We have already registered as a school but anyone else can register as well below:

See the description below and then the topics farther down.

Chai Mitzvah

This program for our grade 5 and 6 students has several themes in keeping with Mitzvot or good deeds. While there are monthly themes, we will cover half the programs in one year and the other half in the other.
