College and Career

The ACT and SAT are standardized tests commonly used for college admissions in the United States, and they play an important role in the application process for many universities.  High school juniors typically take the ACT or SAT in the spring of their junior year, with the option to retake the test in the fall of their senior year to improve their scores.  Both tests assess core academic skills in reading, writing, math, and, for the ACT, science reasoning. 

While some colleges have gone test-optional, strong scores can still enhance applications, qualify students for scholarships, and fulfill certain admission requirements.  Students are encouraged to research the testing policies of their target colleges early, register ahead of deadlines, and take advantage of free study websites.  Planning ahead and preparing strategically can help reduce stress and boost performance.
