Onboarding is the time between when you accept your offer with TFA Miami-Dade and when you are hired by a school in August. We believe successful onboarding entails:
Awareness and learning of the systemic barriers students and families face in Miami-Dade.
Clarity and support to fulfill testing and pre-employment requirements to be hire-ready before the hiring process begins on July 30th.
Cohesion towards collective action as a TFA corps.
GENERAL ONBOARDING TIMELINE
Below is the general timeline of onboarding. Dates are dependent on when you were accepted into TFA Miami-Dade and will be communicated to you via bi-weekly regional email blasts called the Miami Minute! In March, you will begin receiving weekly "Hire Updates" that are individually tailored to your completion of Onboarding Action Items. Please read below for what to expect on your onboarding journey:
Welcome Call - This will be hosted immediately after the deadline to accept your offer. You'll begin meeting your TFA 2022 corps and learn what's next for you.
2. General Testing Call - This will be a deep dive into certification requirements, historical trends in Miami-Dade, and share what is needed from you to ace certification exams.
3. Beginning of Onboarding (BOO) Conversations - BOO Conversations are 1 hour in length and will be used to build a relationship between Xavier and you, share all relevant action items, understand your needs, and begin to cultivate a strong partnership.
4. Take your General Knowledge Test (GKT). The Testing Resources subpage has more information. This should be taken within a month of accepting your offer unless you have financial constraints. You and Xavier will determine the best course during your BOO conversation. Share results with Xavier!
5. Study for your Subject Area Exam (SAE). The Testing Resources subpage has more information. This test should be taken no later than a month and a half after onboarding begins unless you have financial constraints.
6. If you are successful after your first attempt on both exams, you are done with the hardest part and can apply for certification through the Florida Department of Education. If not, you and Xavier will meet to create a Test Action Plan to review your scores and create a study plan.
7. Learning Series Call #1 - You will learn about the educational landscape in Miami-Dade.
8. Learning Series Call #2 - You will learn about TFA Miami-Dade's philosophy on working within a diverse coalition.
9. Learning Series Call #3 - You will learn about values-driven leadership and why it is essential when working within a diverse coalition.
