Our pre-service initiatives focus on recruiting and training promising leaders to serve students here in Hawai'i.
Host a Classroom Visit
Many prospective applicants are curious about what teaching in one of our placement schools really looks like. Inspire individuals to apply by sharing your love of teaching and the community you work alongside. Interested? Email Lia & Lindsey: lia.rozmiarek@teachforamerica.org; lindsey.takenaka@teachforamerica.org
Attend Recruitment Events
Talk story with applicants during different recruitment events throughout the year to share the impact of the corps experience on your career and generate applying to the corps. (See calendar here)
Bring in great people & Support prospects!
There are formal ways to support prospects (see Pre-Corps support). Informally, you have the ability to:
Inspire kamaʻāina and Native Hawaiian individuals as they consider applying to TFA
Gather information to identify and advocate for strong applicants
Support applicants as they go through the application process: https://www.teachforamerica.org/how-to-join
Inspire individuals around the potential additional impact they could have teaching here in the islands: https://www.teachforamerica.org/where-we-work/hawaii
Share your own personal experiences as a Teach For America Hawaiʻi corps member
Maintain these relationships as people become part of our TFA Hawaiʻi ʻohana long-term
Once a corps member officially accepts their offer to join the Hawai'i corps, you can shape the early mindsets of potential new colleagues in a variety of ways.
Share your CM/Alumni Impact
Diversify the narrative of the corps experience in HI by sharing your reflections with our newest teachers.
Connect CMs with Placement Communities
With our alumni staying longer in placement schools, a majority of our corps members are placed in schools with alumni. Help our teachers go beyond knowledge of Hawai'i to go deeper into understanding their specific communities. Opportunities include resource sharing, interviews, and any other activities you wish you had prior to the corps experience!
