Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. -Benjamin Franklin

On April 16th, the high school department did a walking water science experiment. This rainbow activity is perfect for spring science! Students placed 7 cups in a row and poured water in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th cup. With hand under hand assistance, students added different colors to each cup to form a rainbow. Students watched the colored water begin to crawl up the paper towel. They also tapped each glass to hear different tones/sounds.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

On April 1st, the high school department created rabbits and chicks out of washcloths. Students got to experience the varying textures of washcloths as well as practice communication goals in the process.

Congratulations to teacher Mary McKinnie for being named a finalist for Elementary District Teacher of the Year!

Mary McKinnie’s principal and colleagues at Jo Kelly School surprised Mary with the news April 5th with a surprise floral arrangement, and she also received a gift card from Central Market, the District Teacher of the Year Award Program sponsor.

Mary has taught seven years and knew from an early age she wanted to work with students with special needs. She has a strong desire to serve others and help students succeed.

The District Teacher of the Year winner will be announced in early May.
