JLAB

The JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) is a national academic competition which is the largest of its kind for high schools in the country. There are three levels of the competition, which units who complete levels 1 and 2 successfully attending the last level at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. Subjects that are covered in all three levels include history, literature, current events and JROTC curriculum. There may be 4-8 cadets representing a school. The competition is sponsored by the College Options Foundation and the U. S. Army Cadet Command.

By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, leadership, academic competition, and college opportunity.

There are two teams - an academic team and a leadership team. The teams generally consist of 4 juniors and 2 sophomores.

Important dates:

  • Preparation (September 8 - October 30)

    • September 8 - 30 - Assemble the team

    • October 1-25 - Individual practice. Log in at https://www.cofcontests.com/

    • October 26, 2020 - Select the testing date. Both Level I and II consist of approximately 75 questions and take approximately 1 hour to complete.  This is a TEAM event – all cadets on the team (including alternates) should sit at one computer and answer questions as a team.

    • Once a team has begun the test, there is no ability to stop and start over. The competition must be completed in one sitting.

    • Level I (November 01, 2020 - January 31, 2021)

  • Level II - (February 15 – March 5)

    • February 15, 2021 (assuming our teams advance)

  • Level III

    • June 18 - 22, 2021 - The National Championship will be held at The Catholic University of America, Washington DC.
