This course focuses on the use of a 35 mm camera and learning the techniques of photo composition. Students will create and manipulate the camera to produce images using various traditional black and white photography techniques and styles. All aspects of the basic SLR use will be explained: shutter speed, aperture, exposure, enlargement, as well as the various types of film and photographic paper. Throughout the year, the students will produce a body of work demonstrating an understanding of photography and a portfolio of images that show their developing personal style. The students will study the history of photography as it relates to introduction and rise of this medium. Digital imaging and manipulation may be included in their studio projects.
NOTE: The prerequisite to take this course is Grade 9 Art (AVI 101), Grade 10 Art (AVI 201), and/or Grade 10 Media Art (ASM 201)
