In this course the students will create art works that explore a wide range of subject matter and media, as well as evaluate art works, providing grounds for their aesthetic judgements. They will also examine historical and cultural contexts of Western art (including Canadian) and art from various world cultures to support their study of specific media. Art history from the Italian Renaissance to the Rococo period will be studied in greater depth. Students will continue to develop their analytical skills through writing critiques of their own works and that of others, acting as a springboard to increase their visual literacy. Furthermore, students will begin to conceptualize their ideas and communicate these ideas expressively through their artwork by exploring the application of artistic style as developed through skills practice in a variety of media.
NOTE: The prerequisite to take this course is Grade 9 Art (AVI 101), Grade 10 Art (AVI 201), and/or Grade 10 Media Art (ASM 201)
