Know Your Rights

Every student has the right to feel safe and welcome at school. Everyone has the right to be treated with respect, dignity and understanding.

If you hear, see or experience:

• name calling or threats;

• unwelcome remarks or slurs;

• obscene gestures or jokes;

• unwanted touching or sexual bullying;

• online harassment;

• derogatory or offensive materials;

• threats of outing someone;

• intimidation or physical violence; or,

• anything else that negatively affects an individual or group:

Speak with a caring adult (Teacher, Guidance, or any Staff member at Northern!)

Talk to your Principal or Vice Principal.

Call the Student Safety Line. 

The TDSB Student Safety Line is an anonymous phone number you can call to report school safety concerns at 416-395-SAFE (7233). 

• Anonymous Reporting: You do not have to give your name to leave a message.

• Checked Regularly: Staff review messages during regular school days.

• Emergencies: If there is an immediate danger or medical emergency, always call 9-1-1 instead, and tell an adult in the building right away.  

Northern is a Caring & Safe School 

Each TDSB school has a Caring and Safe Schools Committee that works together to ensure a positive and peaceful school. All schools have a Safe Schools Plan that includes prevention strategies and peaceful problem solving. Schools work with community partners to attract students into positive activities. We support police outreach through Crime Stoppers and other police-community involvement. We encourage students to help each other through programs like peer mediation, counselling, theatre performances and classroom discussions.

At Northern, the Caring and Safe School Committee meets four times per year in the Heritage room.  Please read the school Bulletin sent out by the Principal for your invitation to join us!   All staff, parents, and students are welcome to share in making Northern an inclusive, safe, respectful, and caring place for all.
