What do you think will happen next in the story? What clues make you think that? Were your predictions correct? If they were not correct, think about why they weren't. How will this change your predictions in the future?
Text-To-Self: Does the story remind you of something that happened in your own life that is similar to what happened in the story? How is it the same? How is it different? Can you relate to the character in some way? Explain how using examples from the text.
Text-To-Text: Does the story remind you of another story you read? Explain how the stories are the same and how they are different. Use examples from both stories to support your answer.
Text-To-World: Does the story remind you of something that is happening in the world, or has happened in the world? Explain how they are similar and how they are different.
As you are reading, visualize in your mind what is happening in the story. Sometimes, it helps to close your eyes. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? Make a movie of what's happening in the story in your mind.
As you read, stop and think about what you are reading.
Reflect on what's happening
Makes connections to the story (e.g., text-to-text, text-to-self, text-to-world)
Visualize (e.g., picture in mind what is happening)
Make predictions
Make inferences
Ask questions.
If you do, you will know what to look for as you read.
Go back and read the text again, or skim for information. Good readers always go back to the text a few times when answering questions.
