The students were challenged to use a variety of materials (e.g., oil pastels, paint, and materials of various textures [e.g. yarn, found objects] to create an animal based on the book “Stand Like A Cedar”. They learned how to respond to design challenges (e.g., adding or removing items, adding materials to keep certain parts upright, how to make the glue stick (e.g., holding it longer), how to make the paint cover well (e.g., being patient and using multiple coats), restarting, etc.).
