This is a shorter interdisciplinary unit that combines chemistry (acids and bases) with climate change (ocean acidification). Most of the lessons are adapted from the excellent inquiryHub Chemistry curriculum. An important focus of this unit is teaching students to ask questions, and what else is more important than that to science?
What is happening to the shellfish? (and what can we do about it?)
behaviour of acids and bases
ocean acidification
asking questions and designing experiments to answer them

To answer the big question, "what is happening to the shellfish?" students create a model page, building their answer as their scientific understanding grows with each lesson. The final step is to explore a potential solution to ocean acidification and integrate this into their model.
