Give clear instructions - simplify language, rephrase, and repeat if needed
Use non-verbal cues such as gestures, visuals, objects, demonstrations
Provide additional wait time when asking a question
Have students retell instructions or directions
Use media and visuals to build knowledge of a topic and key concepts
Provide opportunities for students to prepare and rehearse before speaking
Provide frequent opportunities for students to listen and talk
Paraphrase and model correct forms of speech, rather than correcting errors
Use scaffolds (for ELLs in early steps) such as sentence frames and vocab lists
