Social Emotional Considerations & Support

Students often feel like they “fit in” the gifted environment because they are surrounded by many other students that think the way they do (like minded peers).

Students may be coming from an environment where they are often the top student of the class and now they are among other top students, which can create some issues of identity. These are addressed often by teachers that learning is a journey, not a competition.

Pace and demands of the gifted classes may be different than what they are used to, so ask your child how they are feeling about school (just fine or overwhelmed) communication is key.

The Gifted program is not for everyone. There is a yearly review of each student’s progress and recommendations for level of support for upcoming year are made, typically held in the spring.
