Age 10 is the key. If a girl doesn’t participate in sport by age 10 there is only a 10% chance she’ll be physically active at age 25.

basketball, volleyball & ice hockey

Basketball: Our grade 4/5 girls team played a great tournament at Palmerston. They won 3 out of 4 games! Way to go girls! Our intermediate girls team gets to show off their skills on DEC. 10 @Bowmore.

Volleyball: Our junior boys volleyball team will play in a friendly learn to play clinic on DEC. 18 @Humewood. We wish them good luck!

Ice Hockey: We had a practice for both junior and intermediate teams on Wednesday. All equipment issues have been sorted out and everyone is ready to play! Schedules for both teams are set and posted. Permission forms will go home this week. We will need lots of support from families to make these two teams run smoothly. If you can help with carpools, running the scoreboard, helping on the bench, tying skates or snapping helmets, we would love the extra hands! Please take a close look at our schedules and see where you can help out and then please email Ms. Samuel.

Nov. 29

Basketball: Our grade 6 girls played an amazing tournament at AMG last week. We are very proud to say they won all of their games, and quite handily, I might add! Congratulations! They have set the bar very high for our intermediate girls team. They play on DEC. 10 @Bowmore.

Volleyball: Our intermediate boys played in a very tough division 2 tournament. Even though they only had a few practices, they played very well. We are very proud of them for showing courage and determination. We often learn more in defeat than we do in winning. Our junior boys volleyball team is just getting started and will look to our older players for guidance and leadership. The junior boys will play in a friendly tournament before the winter break. Details are TBD.

Ice Hockey: Students in grades 4-8 who are interested in playing ice hockey should pick up any hockey gear they need this week. Our practice is on DEC. 4, 10:00am-11:00am @McCormick Arena. I am hoping to use this time to sort out any equipment issues and evaluate basic skills. We will need lots of parent volunteers to help in the dressing room and on the ice (bring your helmet).

The next sports up for offer are boys basketball and girls volleyball. Keep your eyes and ears open for details on the morning announcements and around the school.

Go Brock Go!

We are on the path to achieving our best. Let's keep it up Brock!!

  • Permission forms went home today (Sept. 24) to those students who have shown a commitment to practices.

Come out and play!

cross country and soccer update sept. 13

Wow! What a great turnout we had this week. It was amazing to see so many students running and having fun! As the weather gets chilly in the mornings, you may want to bring a little pair of gloves, sweater and a maybe even a wooly hat. I think we all know to bring extra socks now! Running on grass can be wet, but it's good practice for cross country season. All adults are welcome to join us. Having lots of people to encourage and supervise our young runners is a big help.

Next Saturday, September 21, I will be offering an optional practice at Ashbridges Bay at 10:00am. We will meet at the Woodbine Bathing Station, which is near the parking lot at Lakeshore and Northern Dancer Blvd. We will run the course and learn some tips and tricks in preparation for race day. Parents are responsible for transportation and supervision of their children for the duration of the practice. Bring your running gear and hit the sand with us!

Our meet day is set for OCT. 3. As in the past, we will need lots of families to help. We will need people to:

  • Carpool our grade 1-2 runners- they have the first races of the day and the school bus will not be able to leave early enough to get them there in time for 9:30am. We will need drivers to take take kids to and from Ashbridges Bay. Drivers must complete the form posted under the "documents and forms" tab. This must be done once a school year.
  • Course marshals-as we did such a great job last year, we will once again be responsible for one spot on the course for the whole day. We need to help direct runners along the route. We will need adults to take shifts throughout the day. (Being out on the course is a great way to get some fantastic pictures!)
  • Supervision-we will need adults to monitor students throughout the day.
  • Handing out jerseys on race day-we will need a few adults to help give out jerseys at school before we leave.

Please think about where you can help out. Please email me to let me know where you can chip in. Thanks in advance for your support and cooperation. Managing a large team like this is only possible with the help of many people!

soccer

Ms. Moreiro has once again offered to coach all four soccer teams for us! She will begin practices on Tuesday after school. These teams are for grades 4-8 students. Please make sure you've filled out the green "tryout and participation" form before the first practice.

cross country update sept. 8

Alright, alright, alright! Our season has begun!

We meet at the school at 7:45 sharp! We will go to the Brockton track together. Mondays will be for grades 4-8 only. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be for grades 1-8. Grade 1-3 students must attend at least 5 practices, and grade 4-8 students must attend at least 8 practices in order to be invited on the team. Only members of the team will be invited to the meet on either October 2, 3, or 4 @Ashbridges Bay.

Parents are welcome to join in and help with supervision and motivation!

If it is raining cats and dogs practice is cancelled.

I encourage everyone to go to Ashbridges Bay to practice running the route. If you can get familiar with the route you will be more confident on race day.

update May 10

Track and Field-we are anxiously awaiting our official results from that rainy, cold, awesome day at Varsity Stadium! I'm so very proud of all our athletes. They competed in some very challenging weather and with some very difficult time delays. No one complained! Everyone just used our famous mantra to "quiet your mind and get the job done".

Practices continue for those who've qualified and for anyone who wants a workout:

  • Running events- Mon., Tues., Thurs. 7:45am
  • Field events: Tues., Thurs., Fri.,11:55am

updated may 1

Track and Field: Our team is almost set! We make final decisions about who is competing in each event on Monday morning.

Our track meet is on Friday, May 3 @Varsity Stadium. It's an easy TTC ride to St. George station. We will leave the school in two groups.

The first group will leave at 7:40AM with Ms. Samuel:

  • Quinn C, June, Ilwaad, Quinn W., Catarina, Sonia, Kelly, Istrat, Leeloo, Aubrey, Konrad, Leslie, Yasser, Ava, Astrid, Johnathan, Rayan (17)

The second group will leave at 8:15 with Ms. Fischer:

  • Sophia R.B., Asha, Victoria, Julia, Bessie, Jessica, Emerson, Azaria, Gaby, Aroon, Genelynn, Emily, Gage, Sunny, Mina, Lillian, Emma DH, Ali (18)

We will need lots of parent volunteers to help supervise on the TTC and during the day. If you can help out, please email Ms. Samuel (Virginia.Samuel@tdsb.on.ca) If the weather is inclement, we will try to send some students back to the school after their events are finished. Hanging around a track all day in the cold and rain is not much fun!

The weather looks to be rainy at this point. The meet runs rain or shine! Please help your child prepare for the day. There is very little shelter at the track and conditions can be very difficult. Students should wear shorts, T-shirts, long sleeved shirts, warm sweaters, rain jacket and rain pants. Wooly hats, mitts and umbrellas are also very good ideas. Wear all of your Brock clothing. If you need to borrow a Brock shirt from the school, we will give them out Friday morning before we leave.

Students will need enough drinks, snacks and lunch to last the day. There might be a concession stand open for things like chips, popcorn, candy, but I'm not sure. Students will be allowed to use the concession stands inside the stadium, if they'd like to. Although there are many fast food and coffee shops in the area, we will ask that students not leave the stadium. We don't want anyone to miss their event!

Please see the Documents and Forms section for the permission form, schedule and information letter.

soccer wrap up-nov. 2

October was busy for our four Brock soccer teams! We began training the third week of September. Our Junior boys competed and finished strong at their tournament on October 5. Our senior boys showed amazing sportsmanship and some excellent FIFA moments at their tournament at Christie pits. The junior girls had an exciting day at Central Tech of skills and fair game play; even stopping a penalty and ensuring we had no goals scored against us throughout the tournament. Finally, the senior girls soccer team, were victorious during our final tournament on October 29! Luckily the rain and snow stayed away!

Ms. Moreiro are Ms. Givelos are extremely proud of our junior and senior athletes that trained throughout September and october and continuously improved their skills. We braved rain, sun and chilly conditions for 4 different soccer teams and made Brock proud. Goooooo Ninjas!

Ms. Moreiro and Ms. Givelos

cross country wrap up- oct. 26

Yesterday marked the end of our cross country season. Emerson went to the city finals and represented Brock very well. She had a hard race under difficult conditions. We are very proud of her! Congratulations!

This year our 68 runners were part of the more than 25,000 who participated in cross country across the TDSB. Can you believe it? Over 25,000 children choosing to be active! 25,000 children with an opportunity to join in and play. This opportunity only happens when teachers volunteer their time to coach. Thank you very much to our teaching staff who helped support this amazing team.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves this season and will join again next year!

cross country update- OCT 4.

Wow! Wow! Wow! We had a smooth, fast and fun day at the beach. Thank you very much to all our amazing parents for helping to drive, supervise and marshal the course. (The convenors made a special point of telling me that we had the best group of volunteers they've had this season!)

A smooth day only happens when everyone chips in a little bit. Thanks so much for transporting the canopy, picking up car seats, organizing jerseys, helping with bathrooms, helping with lunches, snacks, and safety. And most importantly, thank you so much for encouraging your child to join the team. We are so happy to have 68 amazing students who had the courage to show up to practices, persevere through challenging workouts and bravely step to the start line. We hope our team grows and grows next year.

Those who finished in the top 30 from grades 3-8 will advance to the Conference Final on Oct. 15 @Abridges Bay. Unofficially, the following students are moving on:

Aimi, Quinn W., Emerson, Gage, Lillian and Jonathan. Congratulations!!

We will need drivers and maybe a parent to two to help out for the day. Please email Ms. Samuel if you are available.

We are missing two jerseys-1 youth small, 1 youth medium. Please return them to school on Tuesday. Thanks.

With sand in our shoes and joy in our hearts,

track and field season wrap up-june 11

We had a great showing at the South Conference final on June 7. Our four athletes showed courage and determination as they faced some very fierce competition. Congratulations to:

Grade 4: Triple Jump, 8th place, Leslie 7.34m (personal best!)

Grade 6: 400m, 15th place, Yugesh 1:24.12

Grade 7: 400m, 11th place, Jonathan 1:07.03 (personal best!)

Grade 8: 1500m, 14th place, Makenna 6:44.99

Our track and field season is now over. When I took a closer look at our results, I was pleasantly surprised. Although we didn't have a lot of students advancing to the conference final, we did have a lot of top 10 finishes. Out of 73 events we entered, we had 51 top 10 finishes! I am really encouraged by that number! I'm already excited for next season. I would like to have even more entries (more participation) and more top 10 finishes next year. Track and field is a great sport that gives students of all abilities a chance to succeed. So, next year, sign up, join in and come play!

Thanks very much for a fun season.

Ms. Samuel

track and field conference final-june 7

Tomorrow 4 amazing athletes will represent Brock at the South Conference Final track meet. We are very excited to watch them compete! Makenna, Johnny, Yugesh and Leslie must meet Ms. Samuel on the main floor at 7:15am. We need to leave bright and early to make sure Makenna gets to the track in time for her race. Students should remember to wear their Brock clothing (they can borrow from the school if they need to), bring lunch, snacks and drinks to last the day and bring weather appropriate clothing (including sunscreen). Remember it's always cooler at the track.

If you are in the area of Birchmount stadium tomorrow, come on out and cheer us on!

Schedule:

8:30 Makenna (1500m)

9:40 Leslie (triple jump)

1:00 Yugesh (400m)

1:00 Johnny (400m)

Return to Brock approx. 3:00

jr. slo-pitch season update-May 30

The junior boys played a very close game this afternoon! We were behind going into the bottom of the last inning and we tied it up! Unfortunately, Jesse Ketchum scored 3 runs in the extra innings and we just couldn't match it! We lost 12-9.

We are very proud of our boys and girls teams. They have progressed so much since the beginning of the season! Every player can now hit, catch and throw very well! We are already looking forward to next year!

Keep the gloves out and keep your eye on the ball!

Ms. Samuel

jr. boys slo-pitch playoff game-May 30

Our playoff game has been set for May 30, 2:30 at Brock. We will play Jesse Ketchum. If you are around, come on out and cheer us on!

Jr. ultimate frisbee update-may 25

Our junior ultimate frisbee team had a great tournament on Wednesday afternoon. Although we lost all three games, we played very, very well against must older, more experienced teams. We were only two or three points away from winning two games! The coaches and I are really proud of how our young players showed determination, resilience and perseverance.

Our junior ultimate frisbee season is now over. We are hanging up the cleats, but keeping the discs flying!

Well done team!

girls slo-pitch update-may 22

Our girls team hosted a great tournament on Thursday. We played against Cottingham and Rosedale schools. Although we lost both games, we played well as a team. A special congratulations must go to our pitchers Olivia and Evelyn. They were cool as cucumbers! That concludes our girls season. Thanks so much to all the families for your support this year. We've started to build a good foundation for our program next year!

Well done everyone!

boys slo-pitch update-may 16

Our boys team hosted an awesome tournament on Friday. We were happy to play against Shirley PS and Perth PS. We won one game and lost one, and that was enough to advance us to the quarter finals! We will host the playoff game in the next few weeks (opposing school and date TBD). Until then, practices continue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30.

Congratulations to everyone for a great start to the season! Way to go boys!

track team update-may 15

Our team of 42 athletes performed very well last week at Birchmount stadium. The energy level was high as we cheered each other on! The final results are not available yet, but should be out in the next few days. When they are ready, I will be sure to post them here. In the meantime, we do know for sure that at least four athletes have advanced to the Conference Finals on June 7 at Birchmount. Way to go Emerson (first place in the 800 and first place in the long jump), Leslie (first place in triple jump), Jonathan (second place 400m) and Makenna (third place in the 1500)! I will connect with those athletes and organize training sessions that are convenient for us all.

We are really proud of everyone who participated. I think we had a lot of top 10 finishes this year! We will know our exact numbers once the official results are made available.

A special thank you must to go out to all the families who helped drive, supervise and cheer us on! It was great to see so many fans in the stands! Thanks so much for your amazing support.

Ms. Samuel and Ms. Barbier
