Graham Middle School
Everything that the Google Suite has to offer can't be learned in six months. Therefore, take your time, talk with colleagues, ask for help, and carefully develop your Google Classroom. But guess what??? You will make mistakes, actually expect mistakes. It's okay! Learn from the errors and restructure each concern to improve your Google Classroom. Gradually, implement new ideas, and share them with colleagues for feedback. We are all in this together!! Keep encouraging each other with a friendly smile!!
Lori : Start with something you feel comfortable with and START SIMPLE. You can always move on from there. Also, check available resources online (teachers pay teachers, etc) for resources you can use and edit to meet your needs.
Cindy: When building your Google Classroom, it is important to keep the format simple and repetitious. Have short and concise directions for each assignment.
Lori: I try to keep it as simple as possible for the students. As I have been creating my material, I have found EQUATIO, BITMOJI, SCREENCASTIFY, KAMI and EDPUZZLE to be the easiest to use. I am a GOOGLE SLIDES fan, so I try to incorporate as much as I can into the slide presentation for each skill.
Cindy: Last year during the pandemic, a colleague and I developed a GOOGLE SLIDE format that worked well for us to deliver instruction. Therefore, I would have to say the GOOGLE SLIDE app is probably the most versatile teaching app I have used in the Google Suite, however, the GSuite has a lot to offer. It is nice to dress up your classroom with a BITMOJI or develop creative ideas using LUCIDCHART. Don't forget to use SCREENCASTIFY, when creating instructional videos. KAMI is a great extension for both the teacher and the students to annotate on documents. Oh yeah, by the way, students really enjoy playing QUIZIZZ to spice everything up with a little fun competition.
Lori: This has probably been one of the most challenging parts of this year. That is why I like the GOOGLE SLIDES. I can use the material on the slide in person and just do the instructional piece live instead of using the video. My online learners are still creating a reference notebook at home from the notes I give on video and on slides, so, in my mind at least, if they have to switch from one learning format to another, there will be some consistency.
Cindy: It is important to develop a structured classroom that is organized with a consistent pattern to navigate and submit assignments. An example would be to plan each day with a repetitious activity to reinforce a learned skill, implement a spiral review, provide guided instruction, encourage extra practice skills, and require a daily assessment with an exit ticket. Students need to understand what the teacher's expectations are for them to be successful.

Naming Your Tests
Performance Matters uses a different filing system than Assessment and Analytics.
You will need to name each test that you make and then maintain a record of the names and numbers of the tests.
You will search for your test using the test name and number.
I would recommend a conventional naming system.
Additional Helpful Video Tutorials:
From the MyDashboard screen, select the magnifying glass icon on the top right in the blue taskbar.
Insert your cursor in the Search bar and begin typing the name of the test you would like to access. If you know the exact name of the test, it should appear first in the list of tests below the search bar.
You may also enter key words in the name of the test and filter your results by selecting the checkboxes on the left side. Select the box for Assessment Test under Type, then select your grade level.
From the MyDashboard screen, select the magnifying glass icon on the top right in the blue taskbar.
On the left side of the screen, select the check box, or filter for Assessment Test, then select your grade level.
Select the check box for your subject (ex. VA.MA for math or VA.SOL.2017.ELA for Reading/English).
Select the down arrows just to the right of your subject to show a drop down menu for the standards, strands and sub-strands. The number in parentheses shows the number of tests that exist which include the standard or strand.
Select the check box next to a strand to view a list of tests that exist for that strand.
