In March 2018, we received a call from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD to provide their Social Studies Department with their 2018-19 inservice. My colleague, Diana Benner and I developed the workshops for August 13-17, 2018.

The week long professional development including crafting professional development sessions for their Social Studies Instructional Specialist (CCIS) Leaders and the Cy-Fair 550 secondary Social Studies teachers with Google tools. The educators represented their respectful disciplines: Government, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Texas History, US History, World Cultures, World History, Geography and Street Law.

Rank topics for the Cy-Fair Social Studies Instructional Specialist (CCIS)

Diana and I first met with Matthew Campbell, Social Studies Curriculum Coach on a Google Hangout to determine the needs for the seventeen Cy-Fair Social Studies Instructional Specialist (CCIS) Leaders that we would meet with on Monday, August 13, 2018. Diana and I then brainstormed Google tools and gave him access to a Google Doc so he could rank the topics on a high, medium or low basis.

Diana and I developed a session for their instructional coaches. Below you will find the title and description.

Title: Google Tools for Coaches

Description: The purpose of this session is to have coaches embrace Google tools not only as a means to make their job easier but to also collaborate with teachers. After attending this session, coaches will be able to better model the use of Google tools to support their teachers.

Next Diana and I developed two different sessions as the 550 teachers would be able to choose their professional development which was crafted to support learner-driven activities using digital Google tools. Their selection for learning depended on their level of Googleness.
