Collaborator 4b

4b Collaborate and co-learn with students to discover and use new digital resources and diagnose and troubleshoot technology issues.

Background

I am the lead facilitator for the Campus Technology Specialist certification. There are a total of eight courses to complete the certification and I facilitate four classes.

The purpose of the TCEA Campus Technology Specialist certification program is to provide a venue for educators who wish to become, or already are, campus-level technology specialists. The emphasis will be on developing skills to help classroom teachers successfully integrate technology into the everyday curriculum. Participants who successfully complete the certification requirements will be fully prepared to serve as a technology specialist on any campus, possessing the knowledge and skills to increase learning through the use of educational technology.

The required classes include webinars, on-line courses, final project and a portfolio. Credit can also be earned at the TCEA Campus Technology Specialist Academy.

I facilitate the "Understanding and Building 21st Century Skills" two part webinar course.

Tony Wagner’s book “The Global Achievement Gap" is the foundation for this class. Participants explore Wagner's Seven Survival Skills for the 21st Century. He believes all students must master these seven skills before they leave our schools. The course ends with discovering different ways to help students build these skills through technology.

During Part 1, I introduce Tony Wagner's book and show a video of Tony Wagner explaining the seven survival skills in his own words. Instead of me presenting the rest of the time I decided to create an assignment where the certification participants would need to:

a. collaborate

b. use digital resources to communicate

c. find it necessary to troubleshoot technology issues to facilitate group work

d. troubleshoot potential problems with the TCEA webinar web conferencing software: Adobe Connect Pro
