Finding forms

Looking at forms that others have created can give you a good idea of how you might want to create your own form. If their form has multiple pages, you can fill it in to get to the next page - your data will not be submitted if you DON'T CLICK THE SUBMIT BUTTON.

question types

Create a Pre-Filled Form

A pre-filled form makes it easier for the submitter by already filling out some of the form for them. They can change what you filled out. If they share the pre-filled form link with someone else, the other person will begin with the pre-filled data in their form.

  1. Click on the more icon (three vertical dots)
  2. Click on Get Pre-filled Link
  3. Fill out the form questions you want answered for the person
  4. Click the Get Link purple button
  5. Click the Copy Link text that appears
  6. In a new tab, paste the link to verify it is pre-filled as you want
  7. Share the link copied (from STEP 5) with specific users

Creating a Self-grading Quiz

A self-grading quiz can be extremely helpful. Certain question types (multiple choice, checkbox, and dropdown) work best. If you use short text or paragraph text, you will need to grade the quizzes individually. Once you make your form a quiz, you will be able to create an answer key - you will notice the Answer Key link at the bottom of each question as you select the question. NOTE: Be sure to collect email addresses if you want to release scores to students via email.

  1. At the top right of the form, click Settings (gear icon)
  2. Click Quizzes --> Make this a quiz
  3. Edit the remaining settings for the quiz.

don't forget...

Click on the More icon (three dots) and select Preferences. Here you can make all questions required and set the default quiz point value.

Customize the theme of your form to make it look more coherent with your website and/or classroom. Click on the Customize Theme link (the painter's palette) to access the controls.

The size of the image to use for the header in Google Forms is 1600 x 400 px. However, the bottom center of the header image is obscured by the top of the question area. REF

Locked Mode for Quizzes

This feature prevents students from opening new browser tabs and search for information or using other apps when taking the quiz. This is only available on district managed Chromebooks. REF

Google Support Forum

If you are looking for help but can't find it through the traditional searching, consider going to the Google Support Forum for Forms. Here you'll be able to ask questions as well as learn from others!

Fresh Release!

Google introduces a new and more efficient sharing interface for Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Forms. REF

  • Separated, task-focused interface: The new sharing dialog highlights essential user tasks like sharing a file, changing permissions, and viewing file access. The redesign also visually separates sharing with people and groups from link-sharing.
  • Quick “copy link” button: We’ve added a “copy link” button to make it easier to get the link without changing link permissions.
  • Easily see current access: The new interface more clearly shows who currently has access to the item, making it easier to quickly audit and change permissions.

Form Notification Add-on Now Available by Google

Google has added it's own add-on that will notify when your form is submitted by a user (you can set how often the notifications happen) and allow you to tailor a reply email to users (set email address, subject line, and email body). No ability (yet?) to attach or merge.

You can find Form Notifications add-on in the G Suite Marketplace.
