The Health and Physical Education Department offers PPL courses for grades 9-12. The courses cover several group and individual activities/games such as soccer, badminton and basketball. As well, Health topics covered are: Nutrition, Fitness, Mental Health, Drug Use and Abuse, Sexuality and CPR. While this Healthy Active Living course is mandatory here at SJPII for all gr. 9 students, they are optional for all other grades. (Note: males and females are taught in separate classes for grade 10 only.)
Our department is very proud of the Personal Fitness program we have built through our PAF30 and 40 courses.(We offer females only sections as well). The course focuses on the building blocks of strength and conditioning with a personalized approach to healthy active living through participation with a variety of different training methods.
SJPII has created wonderful leaders through our Senior Leadership class (PLF40) and these students create and lead many initiatives throughout the year, including intramurals and outreach programs to our feeder schools.
The Kinesiology Course (PSK4U) is a mandatory requirement for students going through Kinesiology in University, and is also very helpful for students going into Nursing or Public Health. This course covers--Anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, biology, sport in society and sports injury.
