At St. John Paul II, we are proud of all the accomplishments of our students and how much they improve their French language skills over the course of 4 years. There is a perfect spot for everyone including IB, Academic and Applied French. Whatever your stream, there is ample opportunity to obtain a French Certificate by grade 12.
Our goal is to live the language and to show our students the advantages of knowing a second or third language. By learning another language we become more accepting and knowledgeable of other cultures. Our students have been to various subsidized exchange programs over the years like Explore or the YMCA where they have been able to study and work in Quebec. Students return home with great memories, an increased knowledge of the French language, a sense of independence and an acceptance of diversity in our country.
Another great opportunity for students is the French Speaking Contest where students can practice and display their thoughts in spoken word. We are proud to have had students who have won several valuable prizes.
Over the years, we have incorporated
several trips in the curriculum to promote “La Francophonie”.
At Lula Lounge, students learn how to play with West African drums and partake in Francophone dances. At “Le Papillon” restaurant, students order food in
an authentic French dining experience. We hope to continue these trips once again!
All in all, students at JPII are encouraged to excel in all areas of language: Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening. We strive to excel in all 4 areas to obtain a well-rounded learning experience. We keep the curriculum current by using up to date magazines, textbooks, movies and websites.
We hope that you will join our French program here at St. John Paul II where everyone is welcome, no matter what type of French studies you have experienced in the past. We all start together with the basics and offer anon-intimidating curriculum where any student can excel and be proud of their
accomplishments!
