In addition to the English courses offered in every grade at every level, the following makes the Brebeuf College English Department unique:

Technology in the Classroom

  • Use of Google Classroom to help students develop as 21st century learners

  • Integrated use of the Google Suite of applications such as Google Docs, to improve and enhance student writing, promote increased student collaboration and deliver effective feedback to students

  • Use of myshakespeare.com to make Shakespearean plays relevant to students and their learning styles

Fostering the Love of Reading

  • Dedicated time to read books each student chooses based on individual interest from our vast library collection

  • Daily reading improves student writing, critical thinking skills and vocabulary

  • Daily reading is noted by renowned educator and author, Penny Kittle, to help students fall in love with books and become life long engaged readers.

Trips Students Never Forget

  • Trips to the Stratford Festival to experience award winning, world class plays

  • Experience plays in an intimate setting in theatres such as Hart House Theatre and The Young Centre for the Performing Arts

  • In house trips to view plays created, produced and performed by Brebeuf Student Theatre--because amazing plays are just right down the hallway.

Academic Enriched English

  • Available for students who have shown a keen interest and strong background in English

English as a Second Language Program

  • All levels of ESL programs are offered (A-E)

  • A welcoming classroom atmosphere that values both a student's cultural background while helping them to appreciate Canada as their current home

  • Dedicated ESL technology such as a digital projector, Chromebooks and a document viewer to be used to enhance language acquisition

  • Practice and development of verbal and written communication skills in preparation to be integrated into the regular English courses

  • Fun ESL trips to the CN Tower, Harbourfront Centre, and/or a Toronto Marlies hockey game.
