TO RECEIVE THIS STRIPE:

Plan & host a qualifying "For Greater Leaders" leadership development experience for your band or community. The event should provide participants with an opportunity to develop, practice, or reflect upon skills that support effective and service-minded leadership.

• • Examples of Leadership Development Resources: Career Counselor, Band Staff Member, other professional school resources, etc. 

  • Example Topics: Public Speaking Tips, Interview Skills, Leadership Styles, Learning Styles, Effective Communication Styles, Burnout Awareness, Time Management, Conflict Resolution, Emotional Intelligence 

  • The Chapter must take an active role in planning and organizing the event

  • 2/3rds of your Active Chapter Membership must participate

Program Planning: 

Chapters should use the For Greater Leaders Program Guide to plan and complete their leadership development experience.

• The event should include:

  • A clearly identified leadership topic or learning objective

  • An educational component, discussion, or activity

  • An opportunity for participants to apply or reflect upon what they learned

Presenters & Campus Partnerships:

Members of Tau Beta Sigma are not required to be the primary content presenters of the event to earn this stripe. Students are encouraged to partner with campus resources or other professional services to bring content expertise.

• Examples:

  • Band Directors & Staff, Career Services professionals, Student Activities staff, Leadership Development Offices, Greek Life professionals, Community Leaders, etc.

Important Notes: Leadership development experiences do not need to be large or complicated to create meaningful impact. Smaller, focused programs often create stronger engagement and deeper learning than overly ambitious events. Successful For Greater Leaders experiences should prioritize participant growth, engagement, accessibility, collaboration, reflection, and practical application over complexity and scale.
