Term 3

Lockdown

Ugh, lockdown AGAIN. During lockdown every morning we have a zoom meeting and do things like Kahoot, scavenger hunts and cool dress up days. At the start of our zooms we always have our karakia run by Nukutai or Mrs Howard, then we move on to scavenger hunts/dress ups then we have a little chat about our learning is going then we go do our kahoots. These Kahoots are nomaly the high points of our zoom everyone joins in and we just have lots of fun together and then we end by having a little chat and, a goodbye to our classmates. This is when we move on to do our work; the tasks that we nomaly have is things like mathsbuddy, NZRA reading, challenges and some Opt In maths tasks all set on seesaw and we use seesaw a lot during our time in lockdown. I really enjoy doing school in lockdown because its nice not having 6hours a day of straight tasks we get can differ our times so it really makes life more fleixible. Ethan

#NZreadaloud - During Lockdown

We continued to work through our book Dawn Raid by Pauline Smith while in lockdown. I like that we were able to keep working on the text we were reading before lockdown because our learning didn't stop. our teacher would record herself reading the story and we would listen to it sketchnote it, take inquires from it and, ask questions of the text as we went. Then we would post our learning on seesaw where we got some feedback and some feedforward which helps us to think more critically about the story. We also had a big zoom with over a hundred people in it which was cool because students from our class ran it. Taine

First Day Back

Yay, finally level 2 is here! We are back to learning and on our first day back we had a twitter with the Dawn Raid author and she was pretty enthusiastic about talking to us through the twitter chat. It was good to back at school and to see everyone reconnect with each other outside of Zoom meetings. We had the opportunity to catch up on any learning that we wanted to finish and to work independently with teacher support as needed. We listened to music from a 1970's playlist which was compiled by our teacher based on our #NZreadaloud text. It was interesting for us to find out that we actually knew some of the songs that were shared and so sing along with the music. Ethan

Zoom With Author

During lockdown we had a zoom with the author there were 100 people in the zoom and more were more people trying to get in. We all got to ask the author questions about the text and about how she got started with her writing; the responses we received were very informative and some helped us to build on what she had shared and inspired us to ask follow up questions. Being able to connect with an author like this really helps our learning because we get a deeper insight into how and why the text was actually written. In this case, Pauline shared that she wanted to inform generations of children to know the impact that our past has on our future. We are really lucky that our #NZreadaloud is able to still be run remotely through lockdown and that we can connect with others through our chosen text. We were lucky that during lockdown we could still continue with the learning that we were doing before we went into lockdown so our learning programme didn't change and this is why we connected with the author of the text we are reading.
