St Andrew's Living Churchyard Project
What can you find in the churchyard?
St Andrew’s Church has a living churchyard within the walls of the old graveyard. There are many creatures who live here; including bats, birds and insects. The grass grows long in places to provide homes for them and wild flowers for food.
Churchyards are very special places for bio diversity and habitats as they have not been cultivated for hundreds of years.
Each summer we have a Living Churchyard Open Day and invite you to help with the ongoing recording of the flora and fauna, take a guided tour of the graveyard or simply immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
The churchyard is managed by volunteers from the church and Calstock Parish Council who work in harmony with respect for nature.
This is a place to be enjoyed and explored.
