Artist: Susan W. Murphy, Liverpool, NY Pysanky
A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write" or "to inscribe", as the designs are not painted on, but written (inscribed) with beeswax.
Assignment:
Draw the outline of an egg as large as you can fit on your paper. Or print out this template: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13DQzZJdcgK6AOPACggN0gbY3eavf4Hf8lcfu6yPagUg/edit?usp=sharing
Draw the lines and dots of your interesting design NEATLY on the egg lightly in crayon. Use light colors for best results. Do not color in with crayon. See "eggsamples" below.
Completely color your egg in with with marker, watercolor paints if you have them, or even watered down tempera paint. The crayon will resist the water based color! You have just done a wax resist project!
Email the photo with your name, grade and school clearly visible to mekross@syrdiocese.org or text to 315-857-5100.
The lines are crayon. The solid color is marker.
