Tips:
Make sure you use the exact amounts given!
Food coloring stains, so stir food coloring into liquid before combining with dry ingredients, or use gloves. Add more coloring to get the color you want.
Store unused clay dough in an airtight container. Wet clay will eventually mold.
All these can be painted when dry, then sealed with thinned glue, Mod Podge, or other sealer.
Easiest Ever Silky Soft Dough
1/3 cup hair conditioner 2/3 cup cornstarch Food coloring optional bowl stirring utensil & hands
Add food coloring to the conditioner in bowl. Add cornstarch. Stir, then mix with hands until dough forms.
Cuppa-cuppa-half-a-cuppa
1 cup flour 1 cup salt ½ cup water food coloring optional
Can reduce salt to ½ or even 1/4 cup. Measure 1 cup flour into bowl. Add salt. Mix well. Add water. Mix well by “cutting” into mixture. Keep mixing. Do not add more water! Keep mixing. When clay forms, use your hands to knead (smoosh and fold) the clay. Be sure dough is completely mixed! Only add one spoonful of water if absolutely necessary, then mix completely.
Papier Mache Clay
1 cup flour 1 cup shredded, crushed paper ¼ cup salt ½ cup water medium bowl stirring utensil
Measure dry ingredients into bowl. Mix well. Add water. Mix well by “cutting” into mixture. Keep mixing. Do not add more water! Keep mixing. When clay finally forms, use your hands to knead the clay. Separate any clumps of paper when needed. Keep smooshing and folding until kneaded well. Add water one spoonful at a time only if absolutely necessary!
Glue & Cornstarch Dough
2 parts cornstarch 1 part white school glue food coloring (gel or liquid) bowl
Put the cornstarch in the bowl. Add small amounts of glue to the bowl while stirring. Keep adding glue until the mixture reaches a good consistency. If too crumbly, add a bit more glue. If too sticky, add a bit more cornstarch.
