Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the end of the academic year, I want to bring your attention to the upcoming state standardized testing that will be taking place in March and April. Students in grades 2-6 will partake in these assessments. Students in 2nd grade take the IREAD-3 only. They do not take the ILEARN assessment like grades 3-6. IREAD-3 will start in March and ILEARN in April. As these dates get closer, you will receive additional information.
These assessments, IREAD-3 and ILEARN, do not define your child's academic ability. The state standardized testing provides valuable insights into your child's academic strengths and areas where they may need additional support. It helps us as educators tailor our instruction to better meet the needs of each student and ensures that we are providing a high-quality education and intervention.
Here are a few ways you can help support your child during this testing period.
Ensure they get plenty of rest: Adequate sleep is essential for optimal cognitive function. Encourage your child to maintain a regular sleep schedule leading up to the testing days to ensure they are well-rested and alert.
Provide a nutritious breakfast: A healthy breakfast can fuel your child's brain and help them concentrate better during the testing sessions. If your child doesn't eat at home, remember breakfast is FREE for ALL students everyday.
Minimize stress: While it's natural for students to feel some anxiety about standardized tests, it's important to keep things in perspective. Remind your child that these tests are just one measure of their abilities and that their worth is not determined solely by their test scores.
Encourage positive thinking: Help your child cultivate a positive mindset by emphasizing their strengths and encouraging them to approach the tests with confidence. Remind them of their hard work and preparation leading up to this moment.
Celebrate effort: Regardless of the outcome, celebrate your child's efforts and hard work during the testing period. Let them know that you are proud of them for giving their best effort, regardless of the results.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help them succeed academically and reach their full potential.
