Course Code: 1221
This course includes the biology and ecology components required to prepare students for the Ohio end-of-course assessment. The course, structured around the idea that students learn by doing science and following the scientific method. Fundamental concepts in cytology, DNA, genetics, biochemistry, classification, cell processes, biotechnology, and scientific issues introduced. Students will also learn fundamental concepts in ecosystems, energy transfer, natural resources, climatology, origins, and diversity of life, adaptation, predation, and competition.

Accelerated Biology emphasizes the same concepts as Biology required by state and district standards to prepare students for the state assessment. However, Accelerated Biology goes into greater depth. Enhanced learning taught through laboratory studies designed for students who wish to pursue post-secondary study and/or a possible vocation in a science field. Students should be prepared to pursue in-depth research projects and/or experiment presentations for further enrichment. This is a rigorous, fast paced and in-depth study of the biological sciences. Sophomore students considered for this course after completing Physical Science with a teacher’s recommendation. Students who already have credit for Biology may not apply for this course.
Advanced Science Units
Credit: 1 (year-long course)
Course Code: 1230
Chemistry is the scientific field that concentrates on the description and explanation of matter, its structure, its
composition, and its behavior. In this course, students will learn about the atom, the periodic table, chemical bonding, physical behavior of matter, and the mathematical applications that apply to each. Students are required to have a basic understanding of algebraic concepts. This course meets the requirement for a third laboratory based course for Ohio High School Graduation Requirements. Students planning to attend a four-year college program following high school are strongly encouraged to take Chemistry and Physics.

College Credit Plus
Credit: 1 (1 semester)
Course Code: CHEM1111
College Credit Plus - Elementary Chemistry is an OHIO TAG course through Columbus State Community College, which provides for credit transfer to any Ohio institution. Not only does this course provide for high school credits needed for graduation, also provides students the opportunity to earn four (4) college credits transcripted to Columbus State Community College. This advanced course develops concepts involving families of elements, chemical reactions, atomic theory, chemical bonding, and energies of reactions. The course is a combination of chemical theory and laboratory work. In the laboratory, the composition of matter is studied, as well as, the changes which matter undergoes during a chemical reaction. This course will prepare students for AP Chemistry. Safety goggles and aprons must be worn in the lab.
*Dual enrollment college courses require an application & college ready test scores.
