Engineering Design is an introductory college level course that exposes students to an array of different engineering disciplines. The course focuses on the application of the engineering design process through experiential learning as you develop your critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills. A strong knowledge of algebra and geometry concepts will help students as they use dimensional analysis and quantitative reasoning to optimize designs. Spatial reasoning will be honed utilizing the following 3D modeling programs: Tinkercad, OnShape, and Autodesk Inventor. Additionally, students will interpret industry prints and create working drawings utilizing modeling programs from functional models to reduce manufacturing costs. This course teaches the foundations of coding and intended for students with no previous background knowledge of computer programming. In this course, students will learn how to code in a fun and accessible way through a series of learning modules including video tutorials, code examples, programming challenges, and applied exercises.
Students will learn about the dynamics of the Web environment while building basic web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students will also be introduced to JavaScript programming language, where they will learn the basic units of logic, sequence, selection, loops, and if statements.
