Band 6th grade: The 6th Grade Band is designed to develop a high level of musical skill through the study and performance of a wide variety of musical styles. The group will perform at least two concerts throughout the year. One in the winter and one in the spring. There may also be opportunities for additional performances throughout the year. Students are expected to work on their music outside of school in order to provide the most effective rehearsal time for all involved. Students are required to actively participate in band for the ENTIRE school year. Students may not choose to be in band for only one semester. The only exception to this would be with approval from the band director.
Choir 6th grade: Sixth grade students will learn to use their vocal instrument to create a correct and pleasing singing sound. In addition to learning proper vocal production and technique, students will also learn music reading skills, sight-singing skills, part reading skills and performance etiquette. Students will be exposed to a varied repertoire of songs throughout the year in different styles, representing different historical periods. There will be a required concert each semester.
Introduction to Spanish 6th grade: In this semester course, students will learn about and be exposed virtually to various cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world, such as who are native Spanish speakers, bullfighting, running with the bulls, the tango, flamenco, merengue, and quinceañeras. Students will identify the Spanish-speaking countries of the world via maps and experience “virtual trips” to some of them. The class will be taught in English, though students will learn some words in Spanish, such as numbers 0-100, basic greetings and farewells, colors, and how to express their names and ages in Spanish.
Cultural Connections: Exploring the World Through Film 6th grade: In this class, students will embark on a cinematic journey around the globe to explore diverse cultures, traditions, and historical events. Through carefully selected films, engaging discussions, and creative projects, students will deepen their understanding of the world's people, places, and customs. This course emphasizes critical thinking, empathy, and an appreciation for global diversity.
Woodland & Wildlife 6th Grade Students will apply principles of botany, dendrology, and silviculture to the management of forests and forest ecosystems. They will apply principles of timber cruising with surveying and mapping techniques to take forest measurements. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for forest reforestation, timber stand improvement, timber harvesting and forest product utilization. Learners will operate and maintain forestry equipment, apply fire management practices, and understand related regulations, laws, and policy issues.
Fine Arts 6th and 7th grade: We introduce the Elements of Art and work through multiple projects that directly relate to certain elements. I pair artists and styles with certain elements and artistic concepts so the students get a historical perspective also. We spend a lot of time on concepts that move students' abilities to be able to create optical illusions and in short make things look as though they have 3 dimensions while being on a 2 dimensional surface.
Drone Technology 7th grade: provide training using drones legally and safely both recreationally and professionally. Also, students will learn the process of drone creation, from selecting components and understanding drone technology to building and testing a fully functional drone.
Introduction to Spanish 7th grade: In this semester course, students will learn about and be exposed virtually to various cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world, such as who are native Spanish speakers, what are typical foods of the Spanish-speaking world, flamenco, holiday traditions, and noteworthy places and people of historical importance related to the Spanish-speaking world. The class will be taught in English, though students will build on the Spanish that they previously learned, including learning months of the year, days of the week, and vocabulary for family, food, and animals. This course is a continuation of the Intro to Spanish 6th grade class.
Ohio Plants and Products 7th grade: This is a class focusing on horticulture and agriculture in Ohio, as well as wild plants and animals (wild and domestic) found around you. You will work on various activities in the classroom, greenhouse, and outside. If you are interested in the crops we grow in Ohio and the horticulture and agriculture around you, this is a class for you.
Agriculture, Foods, and Natural Resources 7th and 8th grade: This is the first course in the Agricultural and Environmental Systems career field. It introduces students to the pathways that are offered in the Agricultural and Environmental Systems career field. As such, learners will obtain fundamental knowledge and skills in food science, natural resource management, animal science & management, plant & horticultural science, power technology, and biotechnology. Students will be introduced to the FFA organization and begin development of their leadership ability. Every semester is slightly different, they can take the class both in seventh grade and in eighth grade.
Band 7th and 8th grade: The 7th and 8th Grade Band is designed to develop a high level of musical skill through the study and performance of a wide variety of musical styles. The group will perform at least two concerts throughout the year. One in the winter and one in the spring. Additionally, they will perform with the high school marching band at one football game in the fall. There may also be opportunities for additional performances throughout the year including but not limited to Memorial Day Parades, adjudicated events, and solo and ensemble. Students are expected to work on their music outside of school in order to provide the most effective rehearsal time for all involved. Students are required to actively participate in band for the ENTIRE school year. Students may not choose to be in band for only one semester. The only exception to this would be if there were extenuating circumstances with the student’s schedule and any change will require approval from the band director.

Health and Wellness 8th grade: This elective course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of health and wellness, focusing on three key areas: nutrition, muscle development, and mental health. Students will learn about balanced diets, the role of nutrients in overall health, and how to make informed food choices. The course also covers muscle development through physical activity, strength training fundamentals, and the importance of lifelong fitness. Additionally, students will explore strategies for maintaining mental health, including stress management, mindfulness, and healthy coping mechanisms. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and discussions, students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Lifetime Fitness 8th grade: This class is designed to promote strength training, and cardio training, as well as built-in competitions through physical games and activities. Principles of safety and warmup are required before we begin each activity. This class is designed for everyone to receive advanced fitness. *THIS IS NOT A CLASS THAT IS REQUIRED FOR YOU, BUT YOUR FULL EFFORT IS REQUIRED at all times!!!*
